The low-cost carrier, which is a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is due to launch officially later this year and will fly five times a week between the two cities from mid-2012, with tickets going on sale in the first quarter of the year.
Campbell Wilson, CEO of Scoot, said: “Scoot's connecting these two great locations is therefore a perfect fit.
“Direct access to one of the world's premier air hubs for Queensland and North New South Wales, and to one of the world's best holiday destinations for Singapore. This should be as exciting for the two locations as it is for us.”
The new airline will provide medium and long-haul no-frills flights from the middle of this year. With an initial fleet of four B777 aircraft, its first-year routes will link Australia, Singapore and China, with others to be announced.
Gold Coast Airport COO, Paul Donovan, added: “This announcement reinforces the ever increasing appeal of the Gold Coast in the market and demonstrates the potential that organisations like Scoot Airlines see in the growth of the destination, providing approximately 166,000 seats per annum.
“We are thrilled we will soon be welcoming Scoot Airlines into the Gold Coast and commend the airline on its decision to make the Gold Coast its second Australian base.”
