The Swedish government has announced it is to extend its contract for all non-domestic flights with SAS and its Star Alliance partners Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines.

Worth $104 million, the contract applies to all government flights outside of Sweden and has been extended for one year until May 31, 2013.

Lars-Ove Filipson, vice president of corporate sales at SAS, said: “We are proud that the Swedish government values our extensive route network.

“We will also continue to save time for their employees, as we have just been named Europe's most punctual airline for the third year in a row.”

The SAS contract is used by 265 government authorities, departments, colleges and universities in Sweden, and the top destinations for the Swedish government's non-domestic flights in 2011 included Brussels, London and Copenhagen.
