The airline will officially launch the route on April 3, when it will operate five times a week until June 14 when it will become a daily service.
Meanwhile, as part of a joint business reorganisation of flights, AA’s oneworld alliance partner Iberia will increase its route from Miami to Madrid Barajas Airport.
From March 25, the Spanish airline will add a second flight on the route, four times per week, while AA will continue to operate one daily flight between the two cities.
The AA flights will use Boeing 767-300 aircraft which have a total capacity of 225 seats.
Peter Dolara, American Airline’s senior vice president based in Miami, said: “The addition of Barcelona further underscores the importance of our Miami hub and our commitment to its growth.
“Barcelona and Miami are both important tourism and business destinations as well cruise ports.
“This flight will further expand South Florida’s historical ties to Spain and will complement our service to Madrid as well as Iberia’s increased service to Spain’s capital city.”
American Airlines, and its subsidiaries American Eagle and the AmericanConnection carrier, serve 260 airports in more than 50 countries with, on average, more than 3,300 daily flights.
