Wizz Air passengers jump 15% in 2011

Poland-based airline Wizz Air has revealed that it carried more than 11 million passengers in 2011 – an increase of 15% compared with a year earlier.

 

The low-cost airline for Central and Eastern Europe added that’s its load factor for the year also reached more than 84%, which was in line with previous years.

 

During 2011, Wizz Air opened three new operating bases, including one in Belgrade in Serbia, one in Vilnius in Lithuania and one in Tirgu Mures in Romania.

 

As a result, the airline now operates from 15 bases and offers more than 200 routes across Europe.

 

József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air, said: “Despite a challenging macro-economic environment, Wizz Air delivered 15% growth in 2011, one of the highest in the European airline industry.

 

“We will continue to expand our operations with the addition of more markets and airports to our route network in 2012.”
