Estonian Air joins ERA

News Tuesday, 06 December 2011 15:34 Written by Dominic Welling

Estonian Air has become the latest carrier to join the European Regions Airline Association (ERA).

Established exactly 20 years ago in December 1991, Estonian Air is 90% owned by the Estonian State and 10% by the Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) Group.

The country’s national carrier flies non-stop from Tallinn Airport to 24 destinations in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Scandinavia and Europe and is the biggest operator from the gateway.

At the moment the airline operates a fleet of two B737s, two CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and two Saab 340s.  Later this month it will add a third CRJ900 NextGen to its fleet.

Tero Taskila, CEO of Estonian Air, said: “ERA’s expertise on developments in the regional industry will be an important asset for us.

“In addition, we can draw support and knowledge from the member airlines when it comes to operating new generation regional aircraft.”

In 2010 the airline carried 582,320 passengers.

Mike Ambrose, director general of ERA, said: “Estonian Air has strong opportunities to increase its market share, especially in transfer traffic and its entry into ERA membership at this time is a powerful endorsement of the value of ERA’s work and achievements for intra-European air transport.”
